David Maker surpassed 1000 career points and the the Golden Knights had the lead going into the second half. However, the Senators were able to rally from behind and get their 17th win of the season.
DOVER, Del. — Sussex Central’s David Maker reached a major career milestone Friday night, surpassing 1,000 career points, but it was Dover High that walked away with the victory. The Golden Knights held a slim lead for much of the game, with Maker putting on a dominant scoring performance. He drained a free throw early to reach the milestone, celebrating with teammates and coaches before continuing to push Sussex Central ahead. His hot streak extended into the third quarter, sinking a long jumper and multiple tough shots in the paint to keep his team in front.
However, Dover’s resilience turned the tide late in the third. Trailing 28-22, the Senators sparked a comeback behind Shadrach Mansaray, who knocked down a key three-pointer to cut the deficit. Moments later, Chase Little converted in the paint, and Istavan Norwood’s and-one put Dover ahead 34-31 after the free throw. Sussex Central answered with a deep three from Brandon Spencer to tie the game at 34, but Little nailed a buzzer-beating corner three to give Dover a lead heading into the fourth.
