Kimyra Cornish-Baine would score her 1000th career point in the opening minutes of what would become a dominating performance against the ECHS Hornets.
SEAFORD, Del. — On the Dave Baker Court Tuesday night, Seaford’s Lady Blue Jays took on the ECHS Hornets in an electric matchup that featured a historic milestone and dominant play by the home team. Early in the first quarter, senior standout Kimyra Cornish-Baine achieved her 1,000th career point with a smooth layup, earning a well-deserved moment of celebration with friends and family. The game paused briefly for a photo opportunity, as the crowd erupted in applause for Cornish-Baine’s impressive achievement.
Returning to action, the Blue Jays wasted no time building a commanding lead. Amira Tingle dominated the boards, converting a rebound into two points, while Cornish-Baine showcased her sharpshooting skills with a three-pointer that extended Seaford’s advantage to 18-4. The Hornets found some rhythm behind Marshay Brown, whose triple trimmed the deficit to single digits, but Cornish-Baine responded with another deep shot to push the lead back to double figures. Seaford went into halftime holding a steady 20-11 edge.
In the second half, the Blue Jays continued their hot streak. Tingle’s aggressive drives and precision shooting powered Seaford’s offense, while Cornish-Baine added a highlight-reel steal and an and-one layup to seal the victory. Despite a strong performance from ECHS’s Brown, who kept the Hornets within striking distance, the Blue Jays’ balanced attack proved too much to handle. Seaford closed out the night with a 60-49 win, improving their record to 11-2 on the season.
